Sunny days, calm days, happy days! The soft breeze
on your face while having slow walks in nature and the relaxing, dreamy sea are
simply the summer aim. Wild beaches with crystal clear waters and a spectacular
seabed for the keen swimmers and divers… the bright star in its maximum
splendour on the horizon during the day and infinite sunsets with an
unimaginable ‘photogenicity’ later on towards the dimmed hours. In one word,
peace! Or much needed peace, rather. You are not expected to ask for anything
more for a vacation?
Menorca also known as “La Roquita” (Little rock) happens to be, without a doubt, the most protected and preserved island of all the Balearic Islands, distant from the mass-intended hotels on the coastline and from crazy party and binge tourism. Menorca still holds a certain rural air in its towns and local life as well as it conserves primitive paths, and beaches in a virgin state. The northern part of the island has unexploited areas, making its beaches and landscapes overall more authentic. On the other side of the isle, the southern coves, more protected from the untimely nature, are a little, calm, exotic escape of idyllic prints which admittedly is what makes them more popular, therefore, more crowded, though their turquoise crystalline waters convince us they’re the most perfect place we ever want to be in. Paradise.
My friend and I stayed in Ciutadella. A small city with a lot of charm in which we enjoyed walking through the old town, getting lost in its pedestrian alleys and taking the route from Plaza Ses Palmeres to Plaza de la Catedral and from the Town Hall down to the port to surround it and go back up to the Place des Pins. We visited marvellous coves such as, Cala En Tortuga, the famous Cala en Turqueta, Cala Mitjana and Mitjaneta, also my favourite Cala Escorxada known for its beauty and because of the fact that it is not the easiest one to access making it almost private. Beyond diving in the magical waters and getting roasted under the hot sun, we explored multiple locations the island has to offer, such as Ferreries and Fornells, with the latest being a beautiful fishing village with a small port surrounded by white houses located in a bay. We had a couple of drinks at the famous Cuevas de Xoroi with the vast Mediterranean sea in front of us and the place that I enjoyed the most was the town of Binibeca. Picturesque fishing village that despite being very touristy, it is worth visiting for its original alleys between perfectly preserved pristine white houses and its beautiful Binibèquer beach. On the last day, before going to the airport, we spent a few hours in the capital Maó, where I had the pleasure of tasting an unforgettable strawberry gazpacho with coconut foam. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water.
Nothing more comfortable and simply stylish than this summery look composed mainly by my carefully chosen, bandana looking red, cotton shirt. Oversized and fresh, perfect for high temperatures and I love its mix of prints like paisley, suzani, damask, thelus, polka dots among many others. I am wearing it with vintage ivory bermuda shorts and black leather sandals. The accessories will complete the rest of the look with my gold colour sunglasses, the blue and white stripy flat cap and the denim and black tote bag which is essential to tour the whole island.
