Shopping is helping

Lately I started to discover more and more charity shops and foundations that they support. I needed different garments with that kind of "message from the past" and on top of that, I do really love the mix of something trendy, even commercial and an older vintage piece. The beautiful thing with charities is, that you might find some treasures for a really good price and you support a good cause. Almost without even realising you take part in something positive.

A charity shop is a retail establishment run by charitable organisation to raise money. They use mainly used goods donated by members of the public, and are often staffed by volunteers. One of the earliest charity shops was set up by the Wolverhampton Society for the blind in 1899 to sell goods made by blind people to raise money for the Society. Because the items for sale are obtained for free, and business costs are low, the items can be sold at very affordable prices. I cannot avoid to think the environmental benefits produced by this type of consumption. Buying second-hand goods as this uses fewer natural resources and would usually do less damage to the enviroment than by buying new goods. In addition, reusing second-hand items is a form of recycing, and thus reduces the amount of waste going to landfill sites. Save the children, in Clapham, British Red Cross, in Chelsea and Oxfam, in Dalston, would be three of the most popular charity shops in London.

The suede caramel coloured coat I am wearing is an example of it. It is from a charity fleamarket in Vienna. An unisex piece with kimono cut sleeves and huge buttons covered in leather. You can feel the late 80s shining through but at the same time it is quite timeless. Here I chose to wear my retro denim jacket with a white fake fur collar, given the whole style a tiny bit of Wild Wild West. The ivory knitted jumper is a real contrast and when you look closely the grey shirt I am wearing shows little dolls on it. Let's play with your outfit! The bottom side would be composed by bottle green suiting trousers and one hell of a great pair of brogues in triple colour. To add some accessories I wear my old wide band watch and a stripy ivory/blue scarf.
