This summer I had the chance to spend a few days in Vienna. To me, it is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Mozart, Sisi the empress, Franz Joseph, Beethoven or Freud are only some important people that belong(ed) to the city with its majestic streets and historical buildings. One of the most important showpieces is the Schönbrunn Palace with the smaller Gloriette on the hill. Schönbrunn, the former summer residence of the imperial family, is one of Europe´s most impressive Baroque palace complexes. The land had been in possession of the Habsburgs since 1569. For most of the year, the Habsburgs resided in the countless chambers that a large imperial family needed in addition to the formal staterooms. Emperor Franz Joseph, who later married enchanting Sisi, was born here in 1830. The monarch spent his last years entirely in the palace, which became the property of the new Republic of Austria only two years after his death. Today, the palace is part of UNESCO´s cultural heritage due to its historic importance, its unique grounds and its splendid furnishings.
If the palace is stunning from inside, the grounds and the different areas of the gardens are even more impressive. The complex includes many attractions like a super fun maze, the world´s oldest zoo, a great botanical garden, few majestic fountains, 32 sculptures, which represent deities and virtues and so on. The white Gloriette, one of my favourite places, it is kind of a small Breakfast Pavilion for the emperor, placed on a hill behind Schönbrunn. It was destroyed in the Second World War but had already been restored by 1947 and 1995. The Gloriette today houses a cafe and an observation deck, which provides panoramic views of the city.
For this hot summer day with it was 35 degrees, I chose a very thin brown shirt with a small leaf print. Sleeves are rolled up and buttons are partly open. The perfect combination is some light denim shorts and a vintage russet-coloured belt matching the vintage brogues. As a last touch, my golden Casio watch gives a relaxed but stylish look. My golden watch has been with me on so many journeys. You need a reliable friend like it.
