The past always returns

Vintage or retro clothing is a generic term for garments originating from a previous era. It has been part of the world since World War I as an idea of reusing clothing because of the textile shortage. Nowadays, rescuing pieces from the past is a trend. A not-that-affordable trend anymore, unfortunately. Today vintage dressing encompasses choosing accessories, mixing vintage garments with new, as well as creating an ensemble of various styles and periods. Something that I love doing while creating my outfits. An example of this would be the graphic t-shirts. Since the 80s, this wardrobe staple has been adding instant character to any outfit. Who doesn’t have his favourite music band, a superhero, any cartoon character or a movie cover t-shirt in his wardrobe? #aclockworkorange #mickeymouse #ramones #nirvana #pokemon

And speaking about prints, we find mixed print outfits. This 70s fad gains momentum during a time when risky fashion choices reign. It not only spices up any ensemble but allows you to have a less boring neutral in your closet. On the other hand, the high waist trousers were originated in the 1950s and this has gained a serious following like me in the 21st century. I love tucking my shirt in the trousers in that famous John Travolta style with a nice knotted belt. Wide frames are back as well. The wide glasses, popular during the 60s, pair wonderfully with the modern fad and casual looks too. One of the oldest vintage fads is the roll-necks. Keeps your neck warm but also adds versatility to any outfit whether pairing under a shirt, a cardigan or a jumper. Popular during the 60s, adds versatility to any outfit. One last thing that I would like to mention is the oversized sweaters. This fad is as much cute as it is comfortable. It effortlessly adds warmth and style.

Here is an example of how I mix some old garments with new, also mixing styles from smart to sporty. I am wearing an oversize vintage bomber in brown leather with patches and badges. This is probably one of the warmest and the most comfortable outerwear I have. Underneath, a basic red sweater with a white bandana tied to my neck. The bottom side is composed of diplomatic stripy jeans rolled up and chocolate brown classic brogues. The printed socks match with all the colours of the outfit with red, brown and blue sketches among others. I love the mix of red and blue so I added the electric blue beanie, perfect for these low temperatures.
