There are only a few wardrobe essentials that we may rely on more than a white shirt. A true 'wear-anywhere closet staple' that looks just as good with your work trousers as well as it does with your weekend denim. Whether yours is made of cotton or soft silk, the tailored shape of this garment makes any outfit feel instantly elegant. You can pair it with trousers and a blazer and head to work or you can tuck it into jeans along with a pair of sneakers, and you are ready for any weekend plan. Tie it up, cuff the sleeves or open the top buttons and roll up the sleeves. Historically a symbol of wealth and distinction, white shirts still hold much of their premium appeal. My first and foremost inspiration regarding this choice stood the British pop duo “Hurts”. They always go for a very sleek appearance with dapper and fresh looks having the white shirt as a base. I did realise then, the clothing's multiple uses and options and that not only lawyers, bankers and dads could wear this garment, but anyone.
As simplicity is key always and here more so, choosing the right type of shirt is of utmost importance and it all comes down to occasion. For a more casual shirt, a plain poplin or chambray is a great alternative. Although, if you’re scaling up your jeans for a nice dinner, opt for a fitted shirt with a dense weave. When it's suit time, the aforementioned white is the perfect blank canvas for a tie and a pocket square and here you have a flattering attire. For the day-to-day dressing, nothing beats a dark navy or a grey two-piece with a white sateen-finish shirt. In summer, there cannot be a better go-to than a white linen shirt and a pair of Bermuda shorts. High-quality, French linen that has some weight is the best solution. It will develop gentle creases over time and give you a cool sense of nonchalance. Personally, I have an inclination toward Mandarin collars for this kind of shirt. This looks great with a pair of chinos even though it may sound somewhat ordinary, but the minimal aspect of this offers limitless opportunity in terms of trouser prints and patterns like stripes, tartan, check or all sort of other prints.
This time
I wore this essential in a rather casual way. A very simple and slouchy outfit
perfectly comfortable for leisure with some stylish details. I am
wearing a beautiful blue, tartan jacket with a fur interior, perfect for the
winter’s cold days. This goes harmonically with a basic, black sweater and a
baggy corduroy pair of trousers; an equally comfortable and cosy garment. The
white socks and the Nike trainers are the sporty touch of the look which I
could not love more as they are very unique since I have created the print
myself and chosen every single one of the colours of the footwear through iD
Nike. The latter was a service the company has previously offered for a short
period of time and admittedly, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process of customising
them, trying many options until I got my perfect pair. The accessories are
vital, and I am completing the look with red biker gloves, a blue beanie and a
black crossbody bag perfectly matching the rest of the outfit.
