We are accustomed to the fact that every year, when the winter season arrives, we get bombarded the so-called suitable clothing for combating icy temperatures or intended for various activities according to these. It's time we wore stuff that look as if they have just arrived from the most exclusive mountains, after having parked our skis to return to our dream hotel to enjoy an anticipated cup of hot chocolate. A very Wham!-Last Christmas type of set in other words. That is why although visiting the Alps was not in our plans, we have inevitably subscribed to ‘après-ski fashion’, a French term that could accurately translate to 'after skiing', which in 2022 also took street style by storm. It has become evident that technicality and comfort do not have to compromise on style when it comes to après ski fashion and consequently the rise of this trend motivated, amongst others, the design house Louis Vuitton to launch its first line of ski clothing. We’re talking about a trend that has successfully dominated both men’s and women’s market so it was easily decided to overlook the gender barrier making it a fully “safe” and timeless go-to option for anyone.
Whatever the weather is like outside, the best way to keep warm this winter has been (and still is) down jackets in their oversized version. This type of outerwear has prominently been one of the kings of the season so you would find it in more patterns than ever; from the cropped, which barely reaches the waist, to the longest ones down to the ankles. I have opted for a retro-looking, skier jacket with volume, a large collar in black with some fluorescent tones that I love. When we talk about winter tops, besides their fabric, colours and patterns we couldn’t fail to point out a significant style in the après ski fashion, the turtlenecks! So far, this winter, white turtleneck sweaters have been "a must". If you already own one, you can look for different alternatives like cardigans. Note that these turtlenecks can be rather stylish. I am wearing a bottle-green rollneck under a tucked in wide, vertical, grey striped shirt. It goes without saying, that knitwear shouldn’t be left out, being another winter star. Beyond the sweater, there are accessories that can’t be missing from your day-to-day life, such as gloves, scarves, and hats and a friendly advice here: don't skimp on size on knitted accessories; the longer and thicker the scarves, the better. I am wearing black, leather gloves with multicolour details in green, red and blue among other tones. The beanie is knitted in bright green to add an extra complimentary colour to the look.
Another après ski essential that needs to be counted in is the shearling. This fabric can be present in any element of your outfit and, this winter; it has caused a real sensation in accessories such as bags and boots but can also be seen on jackets or coats. It can lead on the entire design or be present in details such as linings, cuffs, or collars. Looking at the footwear, I have skipped the anticipated rules of the outfit and chose to wear classic, with a contemporary note, loafers. Seen with a decorative bold coral-y red X combined perfectly with the jacket, worn with sporty white socks. I'm wearing high-waisted jeans in carrot cut as it's meant to be a casual look after all. Whoever’s met me, knows I love a tote bag, normally made of fabric, practical, easy to carry and cool. Mine is black with grey and white geometrical patterns all over the piece, and last but not least you can’t go anywhere if you forget your sunnies, whether you are in the mountains or the city. Adoring how the ones I am wearing add a sleek vibe to the outfit with its black lenses and the thin silver side bars.Bring out your sportier side and immerse yourself in ski style.
Do you dare to lower its aesthetics from the high mountains to the
asphalt of the city?
