Muggle with magic

The enchanting world crafted by J.K. Rowling, featuring the young wizard who leapt from novels to the silver screen, has become a defining phenomenon of the 21st century. Central to understanding this magical realm is its fusion of a quintessentially "British" aesthetic with a retro and vintage flair, intertwined with traditional magical elements like witch hats, Merlin-style tunics, and regal capes reminiscent of fairy tales. A sartorial pinnacle within this universe is the iconic uniform of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry students, drawing inspiration from the attire of exclusive British private schools. Characterised by a dark suit, white shirt, occasional dark grey V-neck sweater, a long black tunic, a striped scarf for chilly winter days, and, most notably, ties representing each of the four houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw. While Harry Potter himself may not be a fashion icon within the wizarding world, the franchise showcases him donning various outfits, including the iconic school uniform.

Inspired by this aesthetic and my love for retro and nerdy looks, I've personalised this school uniform. Wearing a Gryffindor tie paired with a blue Oxford shirt and a belted beige blazer that accentuates the waist. The trousers, in contrast, are a dark charcoal colour, complemented by grey and burgundy stripy socks and stylish blue brogues. The ensemble is a vibrant blend of colours, prints, and details, such as a lion pin on the blazer lapel in homage to Gryffindor. The coat mirrors the trouser colour with a green lapel detail, harmonizing with a vintage traveller bag in tan leather and green tartan print. Completing the look are colour-block leather gloves and a yellow and grey stripy scarf, tying into "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" merchandise.

The shoot location is none other than King's Cross St. Pancras, the renowned train station housing Platform 9¾, where the Hogwarts Express embarks every September 1st.

In an unexpected turn, last May, Midjourney, an artificial intelligence image generator surprised fashion and wizardry enthusiasts with a unique creation: a fashion show featuring characters from the magical universe showcasing Adidas apparel. Hogwarts robes and capes were replaced with high-quality sportswear, elegantly combining style and comfort in a wizard-worthy collection. Another noteworthy instance involves a fashion show for Balenciaga by the user Demonflyingfox, reimagining the saga's cast in the style of the 80s. The resulting videos, titled "Harry Potter by Balenciaga," swiftly gained internet acclaim with 11 million views in seven months.

Currently valued at an astounding $15 billion, the Harry Potter brand exerts unparalleled influence, prompting numerous companies to seek licensing agreements. Clothing brands like Óptima and Top & Bottoms, as well as popular footwear brand Vans, have capitalised on this by launching collections inspired by iconic symbols, scenes, and places from the films. The success of J.K. Rowling's work is evident in every product release, mirroring the box office triumphs of the films. The wizarding universe stands as one of the largest and most merchandised in history, spanning seven books, eight movies, three sequels, an HBO MAX series in production, studio tours outside London, a Universal Studios theme park in Florida, and the ongoing play "Harry Potter and The Cursed Child" presented in multiple countries, alongside its corresponding book and various other products.
