All Aboard

The striped T-shirt, the knitted sweater, the wide-legged trousers, the bucket hat, the shorts, the raincoat, and last but not least some comfortable loafers. Indeed, these are the key pieces of the navy style. Very appropriate and fresh for this time of year, yet completely timeless and adaptable, making it, undoubtedly, one of my favourite styles to wear any time of the year. The gold-buttoned jacket is also a classic of the nautical trend and, of course, influenced by the naval uniform. A garment that has transformed over the centuries to reach modern versions with lighter fabrics and more comfortable silhouettes, ranging from coats to blazers. As for prints, anchor, seahorse, and boat motifs invade textiles to satisfy the taste of sea lovers. However, the one truly undisputed element is stripes. Bandanas plain or with nautical details, either tied around the neck or wrists, complete the look.

The navy look is characterized by its simplicity, freshness, and naturalness. What’s intriguing is finding new angles or ways to "twist" classic garments. Start with the basics and experiment from there. For instance, the classic Breton shirt; it is a wardrobe staple, so you probably already have one at home. Try wearing it with a jean jacket, white trousers, and your favourite sandals or espadrilles. In this case, opt for striped T-shirts that include other colours, innovative cuts, and finer lines.

Although navy blue, white, camel, red, and yellow are typical of the trend, they don't have to be the only colours you wear, don't limit yourself. If you don't want to wear a classic jacket, choose a double-breasted blazer in shades like camel or grey, and in a lightweight fabric like linen. A blazer, paired with a white T-shirt and cotton shorts is practically a wardrobe-must. And finally, let's talk about shoes. The footwear you choose should be comfortable and offer a touch of freshness and relaxed look. Go for shoes with good traction and are easy to put on and take off, while maintaining a relaxed nautical style. Among the thousands of options, we can highlight round-toe boat shoes.

I love a colour-block and the dominant pallet here is consisted of red, yellow and blue. I really like this denim dungarees as you can style it in so many ways and always gives that vibe of innocence and artlessness. I went for something extra summery and clearly maritime, like a fun, colourful sailor. I am wearing a wide horizontal stripe T-shirt in red and white under the dungarees and I am matching it with my red, sailor hat. It might be too bold of a piece for some but it’s just incredible how much an accessory as such, elevates the look and how much personality it gives to it. My socks follow the theme featuring a sailor, also wearing a stripy T-shirt and a hat with a matching my shoes. A pair of beige derby with a vintage feel to them, with white on top and some yellow in the back contrasting the raincoat. There is nothing more sailor-y that this vibrant outerwear, which gives a wonderful colour polarity to the whole look. The blue tote bag is the last touch that carried as a crossbody or alternatively holding it casually would do in any case. What is rather unique about this piece is that it's made mostly of cardboard and some leather finishing. It’s so beautifully executed, making it look and feel robust; a quirky and durable accessory.
