Bag of bones

Maybe with the clocks turning back and the days feeling a little cooler and darker, this seasonal celebration is a great way to keep up our spirits before winter sets in. With the first signs of the end of summer, Halloween merchandise starts appearing in shop windows, the online world, supermarkets and the telly. From fancy dress-costumes to scary cupcakes, trick-or-treat sweets, decorations and the known to all orange vegetable that is now only sold seasonally, the pumpkin. And who hasn’t tasted a delicious pumpkin spice crème cappuccino at Starbucks? Also, the leisure and hostelry industries increased themed nights in pubs and clubs. Halloween has become an occasion in the year that retail brands can’t afford to ignore and therefore have to lure us into spend more and more money every year on the spooky event. The UK, for instance, is well behind the US when it comes to Halloween budget, yet catching up, as within the period of just four years, the very category has seen rises of an average 35%. The Millennials, like myself, seem to love Halloween, with as many as 50% of us squandering money, while 71% of us enjoy taking part, on whether that is on going out, make up or dressing and the like.

Fashion, evidently, is also giving a chance to the trending trick-or-treat in style. More and more, fashion-conscious men and women are wanting to get their scare on come Halloween but aren't always willing to head to the party with a face covered in blood. Chic Halloween has been expanding and becoming huge the last few years. The high fashion catwalks in London, Milan, Paris and New York are surprisingly a bunch of inspiration for October 31st. The spring-summer 2018 shows, for instance, have shown some of the best; take Junya Watanabe’s “Spider Web”, Dior's “Bumble Bee” stripes, McQueen's gothic look with “Lady of Darkness”, Ashish's sequinned "Witches" tops, Thom Browne’s Skeleton jumpsuit or Dolce & Gabbana’s “Queen of Broken Hearts”.

What if, we follow the example and use these fun costumes to rock a new look by just mixing and playing? Take it as a playful escapism and a healthy dose of humour and pop culture nods. I, personally, wanted something related to this period of the year but with a twist of creativity and style that I could wear also out of a Halloween party. And what could be a cooler option than this classic skeleton jumpsuit equally comfortable and cosy? I am wearing it with a black, leather biker and bottle green Dr Martens boots with white socks. Clothing isn't the only thing we're taking note of when it comes to an overall great outfit. It's the styling and accessories that often make a look to stand out, hence why, I went for the colour-block sunglasses matching the blacks and whites of the jumpsuit. Extra elements can be seen, with significance in bold colours with some electric blue and bright orange with this pouch and beanie. A mixture of ideas and references that I am sure most would "freak out", but hey, it's Halloween after all!
