It all started with a mouse

What Walt Disney probably never imagined was that the cheeky teeny mouse he animated in the late 1920s would still be in effect almost a century later! Still less must he have dreamt that the iconic drawing of his company was to become a fashion symbol: with simple lines and full colours, it is a classic among children and adults. Rihanna, Madonna, Lady Gaga and even Marilyn Manson put on headdresses with the famous character's ears. Mickey was born in 1928 and was the first cartoon to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but the fact that, in eight years, the mouse turns a century old, is no reason to lose its freshness and attractiveness. Less than two years ago, with the excuse of the 90th anniversary of the first Mickey Mouse animation, major fashion brands paid tribute to him with objects that replicated his image: from jewellery with crystals to cotton T-shirts. In between, a range of options that celebrities did not take long to incorporate into their outfits. The common denominator is that in all cases they are classic garments, with a certain vintage imprint.
The first brand was Opening Ceremony and from there luxury brands such as Gucci or Marc Jacobs and a long list of low cost brands such as Levi's, Bershka, H&M by Moschino, El Ganso, Zara, Women´secret, Stradivarius or Lefties were added. Desigual, for example, created trendy garments and re-launched the jacket designed in 1984, which included the drawing that Walt Disney presented in society on November 18, 1928, following the premiere of the short Steamboat Willie. Beyond garments, accessory brands like Nixon, Vans, Clarks, Superga or Samsonite have also wanted to pay tribute to the adorable ‘rodent’. It is a symbol of optimism, as well as an inspiration, something that has made it a true icon in the last 92 years.

The Spanish label Alvarno has not only designed T-shirts that play with the typography of its house but also the silhouette of Mickey, it has also presented an exhibition with 18 pieces that make up a mix of art and fashion, sewing and history. Either in fashion or on TV and even on Instagram, wherever Mickey Mouse is, despite his almost 100 years, he causes exaltation wherever he goes, and still is one of the most beloved and followed characters by people of all ages. It’s just one more proof that "Disneymania" is more present than ever.
As a Disney fan myself, I couldn’t like more this very trend. I am wearing a Mickey Mouse T-shirt with navy stripes. A garment that I love as it’s very easy to style and it gives a fun and informal touch to the look. I have this tucked in my straight cut and high waist trousers in navy. I find these denim shoes perfect for the outfit as they look smart but fun at the same time with a lot of little white, imperfect dots. My spring outwear is a rust colour biker with detail in gold matching the vintage Casio watch. The green hat is one of my favourite accessories adding some extra colour to the look and the denim and brown pouch goes perfectly with the rest of the outfit.
